Ghosts By Jared Tomlin Ghosts is a strange subject after Halloween but I figured I could put a few words in about my personal experiences. First off I have never actually seen a ghost or even felt a presence that people describe, but I have been in some creepy places in Okinawa, Japan that would have you thinking they exist for sure. Okinawa is a little tropical island a few hundred miles south of Japan and became a part of Japan early in WWII. In Japan the existence of ghosts is commonly accepted and especially in areas where there were battles or some such memory. Two regular ghost sightings in Okinawa are suicide cliffs and the old abandoned casino. Among many many other WWII related ghost sightings the main scary ghosts stories come from areas in Okinawa now popular for diving but were once scenes of Japanese women and children jumping off cliffs to their death in fear of what the Americans would do to them according to Japanese propaganda. Ghostly mothers would haunt the cliffs at night looking for Americans to toss over. Needless to say, I did all my night diving at the seawall! Next is the abandoned casino/hotel. The myth goes that the site was being developed by the Yakuza (mafia). The building was going up literally right on the other side of a real life midevil Ryukyu castle. One could hop right over the castle walls from the casino. Legend has it that after quite a few untimely deaths while building the casino the project was abandoned because they could not get anyone to work on it. All these places on Okinawa, and the island itself is so amazing I would suggest anyone go visit if ever given the chance.
